Adam Ruins Everything – How Drug Cartels Took Over the Avocado Trade | truTV

No, Adam, at bro night,
we watch “Game of Thro–” What?
Are we in Mexico? Yup! You wanted to hear
the twisted tale of how the drug cartels
got involved in the avocado trade,
right? No! Oh, we’re here anyway. Americans can’t get
enough avocados. In 2017, we imported
$2.6 billion worth of ’em. Nearly all of that
from Mexico. But we weren’t always goo-goo
for the guac glop. In fact, Mexican avocados
used to be banned in the U.S. until the lifting of a trade ban
with Mexico in 1994. Okay, I’ve got
your avocado toast, avocado smoothie, and avocado mimosa. Sorry that took
a couple decades. America was eager to import
cheap Mexican vegetables and export American
staple crops. And Mexico was deep in debt, so the U.S. government offered
to bail them out. But they demanded
some big compromises. Okay, Mexico,
if we’re gonna trade, you gotta be
more like us. More business,
less taxes. But if I can’t
collect taxes, how am I supposed to run
my country? Oh, relax,
Tío Manuel. It’ll be fine. But it wasn’t fine. Since the Mexican government
wasn’t investing as much in local institutions,
the cartels were able to strong-arm
small-town police forces, pay off politicians,
and just take over entire towns. I am the one who knocks… over
your town’s infrastructure. Who’s the bad guy? The cartel dude
or Uncle Sam? They both are,
just in different ways. Okay?
Keep up. But when the U.S.
and Mexican governments started cracking down
on the drug trade, the cartels needed
to diversify their interests, which brings us to avocados. They want to crack down
on my drugs? Fine! I’ll prey on a legal trade,
like avocados. No!
(grunts) Wait!
I didn’t say no! (growling) (laughing) Oh, my God.
He bit through the pit.

  1. I’m not following the logic here. There is no incentive for the American government to try to get Mexico to stop being so high on taxes. Someone fact check this please

  2. Thank the Lord HSBC admitted to laundering billions of dollars for Colombian and Mexican drug cartels (among others) and violating a host of important banking laws (from the Bank Secrecy Act to the Trading With the Enemy Act), Breuer and his Justice Department elected not to pursue criminal prosecutions of the bank, opting instead for a “record” financial settlement of $1.9 billion, which as one analyst noted is about five weeks of income for the bank…. LOL

  3. You didn't think they're using an avocado legal trade to launder their illegal money probably or useing the all avocado transports to smuggle guns drugs and people into the country the most profitable illegal trades

  4. We bailed them out so they would stop taxing us on goods we could have easy grown here we helped them and we still are helping the Mexican government

  5. Oversimplified, biased, and unimportant.

A lot more decisions then uncle Sam pushing them to lower taxes took place. Including the ones that
got them massively into debt in the first place and how the Mexican government implemented the new tax system. Just to name two categories.

Pushing for low taxes doesn't make Sam a bad guy. Whether it was the right choice can only be debated with more information about the circumstances and choices that followed when implementing it. Stop putting uncle Sam as the bad guy or idiot every time, the truth is more complicated than "he's an just an evil idiot".

Who cares that the drug lords are finding other, more legal, trades?

I used to like Adam, but he has fewer facts, more blatant bias, and propaganda these days.

Find better fact checkers, ensure they have a more diverse set of opinions to counteract bias, and be more thorough with your research.

  6. I don't see what the big deal about avocados is, to me they taste like a salted apple mixed with butter that as been left to go bad 😵.
    Seriously they taste horrible.

  7. Yeah as if the Maxican government wasn't already corrupt and wouldn't have invested in infrastructure even if they did have more tax money.

  8. Avocados look and taste like a cross between vomit and baby poop. How would I know what baby poop tastes like, you ask? I eat baby poop on the reg, son!

  9. My brother said if the Cartels ever threatened or stopped the Avocado Trade, he would march down to Mexico and deal with them.

  10. There was SOOO many flaws with this episode, like portraying the truth about the bacon cancer to colorectal cancer, the one that stuck out was there so called expert from yale… The cartel is buying "MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS" in America due to the laxed gun laws…. Where the hell are they buying it at? Because I want to shop there. Get your facts TruTV. Hell learn some true science from SciShow about the bacon – cancer risks. Try to Truly be neutral instead of pushing your stupid agendas.

  11. This is true and is very documented on international press. That is why the cartels started to grow and took over my country, the thing got worst since Calderon started to colaborate with the american government to fight them. I see a lot of americans here who turn defensive with this simple truth. I suppose it is hard to accept that real life is not like a Hollywood movie, America is not the hero and does not help the rest of the world. They just look for their own benefits and tell people they fight for freedom when it is pure and cold buissness.

  12. wished adam mentioned this article. https://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2018/02/02/582086654/mexicos-avocado-capital-says-it-s-kicked-cartels-off-the-farm

  13. Mexico has always been a mess. They had the one of the worst generals- once one of them blow a massive blast in the ground not hurting any enemies. Why do they had the debt in the first place.

  14. I don't know why we don't sell American avocados from South Florida. I grew up with an Avocado tree in my back yard, the fruit is much bigger and plentiful too. The same with mangoes…my parents still have both of these trees after 30 years, giving tons of fruit each year, yet at the store I have to get mine over priced, imported avocados from Mexico and mangoes from the Philippines. Why import when we can produce locally? Florida already supplies a lot of produce to the country and has the space and weather for growing it too.

  15. Meh… this is headed into oversimplified and vague – sorry guys, your own fault but I expect better fact checks and info from you guys.

  16. As a male feminist, shouldn't Adam stop constantly man-splaining and offer his position up to a female, or is it that he thinks women would be incapable of doing as good of a job talking as much bull as he does?

  17. Organized crime always diversifies- it always expands to take both legal and illegal and shady businesses- mixing it up benefits the bottom line the most.

  18. Comment below me did you know actual bananas are yellow true fact yup no joke no insult just a fact people already know so you feel great

  19. If America were smart they'd trade with the Carribean nations that have Avocados about 4 times larger and filling.

  20. Yup…because there aren't black markets in most industries. Including weapons, drugs, etc. Yup…banning stuff from good people because bad people use those items has obviously worked throughout history. Liberals & conservatives are both hypocritical. And this video is full of some BS too. But hey, history and facts shouldn't get in the way of a TV show making profits.

  21. Wow have not watched Adam for a while but it's really has devolved to Adam ruins everything uncle Sam by the looks of it. Somehow USA is at fault for the Mexican government being corrupt and greedy and weak on the cartels?

  22. Please also talk about how the debt on Mexico was also caused by the US’s exploitation of Mexico’s oil!!! History just gets darker!

  23. Wow this show sold out to the liberals big time. Only they didn’t do their homework. Those trade agreements happened under Obama

  24. I mean are they really a cartel anymore if they’re just selling avocados? Also I love the idea of these mexican crime lords each harder than the last. Talking about starting to trade avocados

  25. Taking over avocado market… Ha!, drug cartels rule the country. Sicarios make their "interships" in elektra and coppel collecting money.

  26. YEP! the plan the cartels have is to stay alive long enough to see the legalization of Marigooana! lol Once that happens, they will be able to build on the cartels and turn them into profitable businesses! Of crime!

SO avocados are a good "Test Subject" and alas it seems to Work! No more drugs=less crime, More avocados, and basically no more police threatening to arrest these people for farming.

Plus if something is stolen they CAN call the police now lol ( though they really don't need to)

If this experiment works, the next thing people will be seeing is annoying Sinaloan Cartel branded stuff.  Sicario Merchandise and ads online and on TV "Sicarios Marigooana cigarettes!" or in this case of course. " If you have a hankering for avocados….. Call a Sicario, to kill that urge! Sicario Avocados… Lets assassinate dinner!" *bullet ricochet sound*lol Hay better a business than a Cartel or Sindicate right?

  27. Wrap your sweet noggins, gulliver's, and conscious tongues around this, o brothers and sisters: we, as humans, consume such vast quantities of corn ( it is in EVERY f**** thing) that we, as humans, have corn within us, in our molecular DNA. CORN! I am so corny. …and exceptionally horn*

  28. Ever since Joe Rogan exposed Adam for the pandering idiot that he is, I can’t believe anything that this WOKE ass buffoon says.
