Flashback Friday: Biblical Daniel Fast Put to the Test

“Biblical Daniel Fast Put to the Test” Evidently not completely satisfied with
the scientific rigor of the dietary trial presented in Daniel 1: 8 through 16,
researchers in Tennessee published two papers recently, detailing a
series of parallel experiments on a 21-day all-you-can-eat diet “devoid of animal products and
preservatives, and inclusive of fruits, vegetables, whole grains,
legumes, nuts, and seeds.” In other words, “food intake in
accordance with a stringent vegan diet.” The purpose of the studies was
to determine the effect of a 21-day Daniel Fast on both
biomarkers of antioxidant status and oxidative stress, as well as
the efficacy of the Daniel Fast to improve markers
of the lion’s den of metabolic and cardiovascular
disease risk. No surprise that a diet composed
of whole plant foods improves several risk factors for metabolic
and cardiovascular disease, as well as an improvement
in selected biomarkers of antioxidant status and oxidative
stress—including metabolites of nitric oxide, which I’ve
talked about before. Participants experienced meaningful
improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol, insulin levels, insulin
resistance, and C-reactive protein; were all lowered to a clinically
meaningful extent. And this was in a young
healthy population; imagine the miracles it could do
for people who are really hurting. “This study extends the findings of other
plant-based diets by documenting the impact of a strict vegan diet
on multiple measures of oxidative stress and
antioxidant capacity.” Of course, if, instead of a biblical
Daniel Fast, they had called it a “strict vegan diet,” they probably
would not have gotten a compliance rate of 98.7%,
especially in Tennessee.

  1. I'm level 6 vegan and I totally agree to do anything in Tennessee you have to trick them into convincing them it's in the Bible only way to deal with those people.

  2. In terms of anecdotal evidence, Daniel Fasters testimonies describing the effects of a clean whole food plant based diet as a positive religious experience that filled them with the spirit is, while still anecdotal, very telling of the effects of eating whole plant foods.

  3. What a surprise that the Bible has a very healthy diet in it. Kind of like following the manufacturers service schedule for your car….

  4. i got into vegan diet because the church where i am going teaches the Daniel diet described in the Bible. But not every christian denomination teaches what the seventh day adventist church teaches about lifestyle…

  5. Pulse = beans & lentils only. Not nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, etc! Why do some translations delete the word pulse and use the word vegetables? Two very different meanings.
I know the idea was to avoid unclean meat. But the wine was also unclean & forbidden. Wine is a fruit not meat. There's more to this than simply a vegetarian diet.
Christians modify many such bible passages.

  6. My sister, who is highly religious, just mentioned this to me yesterday when i told her I was going to have to make some serious changes in my diet. Funny how when I mention vegetarian, or vegan she laughs, and says she could never give up meat, but then suggests this. Hello! This is a VEGAN way of eating.

  7. Daniel Fast is vegan. Vegan is not Daniel Fast. Daniel Fast is a subset of a strict vegan diet. In other words, the Daniel Fast excludes food items allowed in a strict vegan diet.

  8. That is not a fast, and this video is practicing something akin to "cultural appropriation" to claim it's the same thing as a "strict vegan diet." It's actually MORE idiotic than "strict" veganism.

  9. Daniel did TWO fasts. The first is properly described by Dr. Greger. The 2nd fast is described by another commenter trying to pass it off as the 1st fast 😌

  10. Abducted by aliens at age 21, I asked them to make me forever young, hoping to get zapped with a ray that would preserve my youth. Instead they recommended a WFPB diet plus B12 & D3 and to grow my own arugula so I'd have it fresh every day. Don't believe the story, but the diet, together with exercise, works, and I've got the youthful appearance and old birth certificate to prove it. Haven't seen any UFOs. though.

  11. I think the picture speaks for itself. Notice his rosy cheeks, his lucious, shiny hair.
The artist really excelled at portraying healthily glowing eyes and a posture that conveys a determined disappproval of dairy

  12. Here’s a better idea. Please leave mythological bullshit stories out of science based data. Muslims and Hindus like to inject their crap, too. Humans have been fasting (not always by choice) and have ate plants waaaay before man invented god(s). The religion you were born in didn’t invent fasting… or proves your belief to be true.

  13. Vegan and Whole Food Plant Based are NOT synonymous. Vegans can include sugar, white flour, oils, processed plant parts, and fried foods. Vegan also brings with it a lot of political baggage. Please do not use the two designations as though they are the same. They are not!

  14. Quite interesting how the title including "Daniel" led to better acceptance in Tennessee than if it were called a strict vegan fast. Yes, I can see how the influence was swayed by that clever naming. Sure enough, as you say, no surprise regarding the results of the study! Be careful though, as you may be treading on thin ice with the biblical naming conclusions – some folks are mighty sensitive to any references to their religious beliefs 😉

  15. Keep in mind, that if the meat source wasn't first sacrificed to idols, Daniel and his chaverim would have pigged out on it. Know that. Mmmm..Passover..love that lamb!

  16. Often have wondered what would happen were the fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds were ALL heirloom varieties not hybrid, tweaked by human varieties, since the organic heirloom varieties which we grow, or buy all have more nutrients.

  17. Going all in on a whole foods plant based diet was this fast. Why do the meat eaters crave the blood so much? How many generations? Are some genes dormant until given the right nutrition.

  18. My parrot has heard the 3 note sign off so many times now, that he just sang it in response! 😄 Great video, especially the last words with regard to compliance! Yep, when it comes to humans, it's all in knowing your demographic and how you spin the deal! 😆 🌱

  19. Just call the WFPB diet a "Bible Diet" and you might get rates up to 20% in the Southern US, one of the most unhealthy places in the Western world.

  20. I'm a fundamentalist Baptist Christian and have significantly limited meat and fat consumption and eat plant based at least 5 days a week. In the Bible BREAD was the main food, not flesh. Give us this day our daily BREAD. The Bible says herbs (vegetables) are for the service of man. Proverbs says bread strengthens man's heart and never says such about meat eating. Proverbs also says not to even be around riotous eaters of flesh in the same verse as not to be around winebibbers. America has one of the highest meat consumption of the world.

  21. I’m curious as to your opinion on Leptins in tomatoes and night shade family doing nothing but damage to your GI tract and avoiding them all together? Also peanuts are supposed to be a no go as well? Thanks

  22. Someone should of told you by now doctor, inflammation causes heart disease. And to reject anything that comes from God is a sin.

  23. All of your studies have the same inherent flaw. What were these people eating for 21 days before the 21 day experiment? I can only presume it was the standard American diet. A diet full of sugar, foods fried in unhealthy and deadly vegetable oils, and mostly processed products.

Any dietary intervention of exclusion of these foods will show a positive result. Any. Diet. Period. Of course that doesn't meet your vegan agenda so you don't bother with that aspect of it.

  24. Thou shall not lie! LOL. Omnivores! They are helpless children. We must always be strict, but kind. Tough love my vegan sisters and brothers. Tough love.

  25. Dr, please explain what the nutritional epidemiologist Tammy N Tong (The Nuffield Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford) is reporting on her study…..here's the link https://www.bmj.com/content/366/bmj.l4897

  26. I just wanted to add in the book of Genesis when God first created humanity the diet He gave was vegan as well. God knew what everyone is now just finding out. He had the perfect plan then and He still has it now after the fall is when we started eating meat but originally the diet God gave was vegan. Read Genesis chapter 1 verse 29.

  27. Indeed a plant based diet is healthy and even more so a raw vegan fruitarian diet but I have issues with people who read the bible as if its a sunday news paper.

1: It wasn't written in English nor with an English mindset.
2: Much of the bible was taken out and fabricated to in slave peoples mind. It's a wonder there's any good left in it at all.
3: Heaven and hell is in your heart and anyone that tells you otherwise is a two tongued liar. Most of the bible is mystical in nature and was never intended for people to take literally there are many realms beyond this one heavens and hells if you will but the eternal lake of fire is a mystical term and anyone that understands mysticism knows that its not literal.
