Turmeric Curcumin, MGUS, and Multiple Myeloma

multiple myeloma is one of the most dreaded cancers it’s a cancer of our antibody producing plasma cells considered one of the most intractable blood diseases for many years the precursor disease is called monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance or amigas when it was named it’s significance was undetermined but now we know the multiple myeloma is almost always preceded by M Gus which makes it one of the most common pre malignant disorders with a prevalence of about 3 percent in the older white general population about 2 to 3 times that in African American populations I’m Gus itself is asymptomatic you don’t even know you have it until your doctor finds it incidentally doing routine blood work but should it progress to multiple myeloma you then have about four years to live so we need to find ways to treat M Gus early before it turns into cancer but no such treatment exists rather patients are just kind of placed in a holding pattern with frequent checkups but if all you’re gonna do is watch and wait – well try out some dietary changes the potential role of curcumin the yellow pigment in the spice turmeric in patients with M Gus Y curcumin well it’s relatively safe considering that’s been consumed as a dietary spice for centuries and it kills multiple myeloma cells here’s the unimpeded growth of four different cell lines of multiple myeloma you start out with 5,000 cancer cells at the beginning of the week which then doubles triples quadruples in a matter of days but if you add a little bit of curcumin or a lot of curcumin the growth is stunted or stopped but this is in a petri dish still exciting enough to justify trying it out in a clinical trial and six years later researchers did one can measure the progression of the disease by the rise and blood levels of what’s called power protein which is what’s made by M Gus in myeloma cells about one in three of the patients responded to the curcumin with dropping power protein levels whereas there was no response in the placebo group these positive findings prompted them to commence a double-blind randomized controlled trial and here it is and they saw the same kind of positive biomarker response in both M Gus patients as well as those with so-called smoldering multiple myeloma in an early stage of the disease these findings suggests that curcumin might have the potential to slow the disease process in patients delaying or preventing the progression of M Gus to multiple myeloma but we won’t know until longer larger studies are done the best way to deal with multiple myeloma is to not get it in the first place in 2010 I profiled this study suggesting that vegetarians have just a quarter of the risk of multiple myeloma compared to those who eat meat and even just working with chicken meat may double one’s risk of multiple myeloma the thinking being that cancers like leukemia lymphoma myeloma may be induced by viral agents in both cattle and chickens so-called zoonotic or animal to human oncogene ik cancer-causing viruses beef however was not associated with multiple myeloma there are however some vegetarian foods we may want to avoid Harvard reported a controversial link between diet soda and multiple myeloma implicating and aspartame french fries and potato chips should not be the way we get our vegetables nor should we probably pickle them while the intake of shallots and garlic and soy foods in green tea was associated with significantly reduced risk of multiple myeloma intake of pickled vegetables three times a week or more was associated with increased risk you

  1. My mother had Sjogrens Syndrome and Raynaud's that led to Multiple Myeloma. Chemo killed her. Not one person has ever been cured of multiple myeloma by having Chemo. If I get it, I would do the diet and alternative cures, and homemade GcMAF. At least my last year on Earth would be 100% better than the suffering my mom endured during her last year of life.

  2. Dr. Virginia Wuerthele-Caspe Livingston, M.D. Investigated a pleomorphic bacteria that is similar to tuberculosis and leprosy, that she called Progenitor cryptocides mycobacterium. This pathogen can produce a growth hormone similar to HCG, that allows it to hide from our immune system. She thought that up to 30 % of chickens were contaminated with this pathogen. This pathogen is not completely killed by cooking. This infection could explain increases in cancer from consuming chicken.

This microbe is also linked to damage of the lining of blood vessels, heart damage, scleroderma, and lupus.

  3. I am an indian lady from chennai. We for years use two pinch of turmeric in all items except sweets, there are some turmeric powder we use on face, full feet, my elder look bit yellow but they had good skin, smooth, no cracks on feet etc. After few hours it fades.

Turmeric is divine auspicious, we offer it to married ladies who husband is alive, windows use it as medicine.

Along with med have suitable food. And pray to Lord Saturn, he helps to cure skin problem, not the christian Satan.

Let us eat natural food and turn vegetarian. Yes, herbivores animals look beautiful kind and healthy too.

  4. The beginning photo is not an accurate picture of multiple myeloma. It appears to be melanoma, a skin cancer. Most myeloma patients have no visible signs of the cancer, as it is a blood cancer that causes bone and kidney damage. If we want to understand what is actually helpful nutritionally to extend life, we need to invite myeloma patients to share their story and their health habits so we can compare accurate data. We are now doing this in a tool called www.healthtree.org. We are myeloma patients ourselves who wanted this tool when we were diagnosed – what actually helps cure multiple myeloma? With approximately 10-15% of patients actually being cured, we want to see who, how and why this is the case to share that success with others. Studies show that curcumin could be helpful when added to a proteasome inhibitor, but no myeloma specialist will run this type of study because funding sources are limited for them. An Indian myeloma specialist noted recently that in India, where 70% of the population is vegetarian and curcumin is used regularly, there are still plenty of incidences of multiple myeloma and other cancers, so one "superfood" is most likely not going to be curative.

  5. So there should be higher incidences of MM in Japan and Korea, right? And possibly lower incidences of MM in India.

  6. I expected to find links to the papers cited in the low bar. All the links are to other Nutrition Facts material. It would be better to provide direct links to the research so we can read them directly.

PS. The picture on the video is misleading. It is not Multiple Myeloma.
